A creuser...

Je vous laisse découvrir ses mails (en anglais) mais que je traduirai à la classe cette semaine. Ils regorgent d'anecdotes rigolotes!

    Bonjour!

Je m’appelle Mya Sluban.  J’ai 7 ans.  And in the second grade.

I live in Ottawa, Canada with my family.  I have a little sister named Audrey.  Clementine just arrived today!  I was very excited to meet her and I made her some outdoor clothes for her right away because it is still chilly here!  +4 and sunny but there is a strong wind! You can see the snow on my front lawn!  We still need to wear rubber boots and warm coats along with hats and mittens.

I go to Convent Glen Catholic School in Orleans, Ottawa.  My French teacher’s name is Madame Josee, she is very nice!  I have 18 boys and 5 girls in my class.  I have a friend named Emma that lives in England, very close to you.  I went there to visit last Easter, it was beautiful.

Today it is Friday and we have a Family-pizza movie night every Friday night, Clementine was very hungry from her long trip from France.

As you can see Emma, she was very excited about her pizza and her fuzzy pink bunny slippers and new yellow PJ’s!

We watched the movie BRAVE and had ice-cream for dessert!

After we snuggled up in my bed for a sleepover in my room.  My little sister Audrey came to join us!

I am excited to show Clementine my city and show her all the fun things I like to do!

     Talk to you soon!

     Love Mya and Clementine

P.S.  are you on the Flat Stanley International website?  I looked for you but could not find you.  I just registered this evening!

     Hello Emma!

What a day we had!  Clementine slept in until almost 8:30 am!

We had a celebration breakfast for her arrival and my Mother made crepes with chocolate sauce, fresh cream with berries.  It was so good!

Then we drove downtown to Parliament Hill.  It is where our Prime Minister works with others to help make good decisions for our country of Canada.  We visited the peace tower which we took an elevator ride in and saw all the bells.  One Bell, their biggest one was said to weigh as much as Three Elephants!!!  It is an impressive building.  The construction of the Parliament Buildings began in 1860 and were completed in 1866.   There was a little gift shop and of course Clementine wanted to look around for a little something for you!

We stopped by the Terry Fox memorial, he was a great young man.  One of Canada’s greatest and purest heroes.  He lost one of his legs to cancer but ran across our great country to raise money for cancer research.   His story lives on, everywhere in the world in the month of September, there are thousands of Terry Fox runs all across the world. After we had a little treat of maple cream cookies.  Made with maple syrup…a Canadian treat served over pancakes usually.

We then walked down to the Byward Market listening to a flutist and dancing to his music, looking at the flowers and pussy willows.  Finally we were so hungry we grabbed a  hotdogs and had lunch on a bench.   All of the day was so fun!  After we came home I went to my friend Kayla’s house to play for the rest of the afternoon!  Kayla is a really good friend, she is nice, caring and funny!  We played Barbie’s and Clementine enjoyed meeting her!  Clementine was very tired after a windy day in the sun, she rested in the afternoon and then got ready for bed early.

Here are some interesting facts about Ottawa.   Ottawa is the fourth largest city in Canada. Toronto, Montreal & Calgary are higher. In the province of Ontario, we are the second largest.  We are home to the Rideau Canal, which winds through the downtown area to 7.8-kilometre stretch of "Skateway" and handles an average of one million skaters per season. It's a great way to see some of Ottawa’s attractions, or quickly commute to work or school. The Skateway is equivalent to over 100 hockey rinks end-to-end, is accessed by almost 40 stairs along its length.

In the winter we celebrate our winter with the Winterlude festival,  it is all February long with skating, concerts, ice carving and lots of outdoor fun!  Not to mention BEAVER TAILS!!!!  A fried pasty something like a flat doughnut that is sprinkled with cinnamon, brown sugar and lemon juice, it is a real treat and a must when skating all afternoon in the cold!

We have many festivals, the Tulip Festival in May with thousands of beautiful tulips blooming all over our city.  There are children’s festivals and museums, little farms to feed piglets and ducklings, nature trails to walk and bike along.  This time of year we go to the sugar bush, bike ride, clean the yard and spend time going to the farm seeing baby animals.  In the late summer just before school begins there is a Lumiere festival.  It is my favourite!  We dress up as fairies and carry our homemade lanterns.  There are many people, performers and lots of lanterns decorated in creative ways.  At the end of the night they light paper lanterns (like in the movie Tangled)  and we watch them float away in the night sky.  It is beautiful.

Clementine is very tired so I will talk to you tomorrow!

     Goodnight my friend,

     Mya and Clementine

  • Bonjour,
